The Minority Leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Honourable Ademola Akeem Ige has appealed to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to maintain a cordial business relationship with their customers for better service delivery.

Honourable Ige made the appeal in his personal explanation during the House plenary yesterday on the need for Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) to build and sustain a conducive business relationship with their customers in the State for better service delivery.

He disclosed that this appeal became imperative owing to the recent misunderstanding between the company and residents of Ilupeju, Ori Aje, Awokanbi, Idi-Ope, Koti Olomu, Kerewu, Papa Ayetoro zone I and II, Oke Suna and many others all in Ibadan South East Local Government and Ibadan South LCDA, Oyo State.

He  informed the House that what led to the misunderstanding was as a result of the letter recently issued by the management of IBEDC and addressed to all the customers in the aforementioned areas informing them of the reason for billing on fixed consumption which the affected people out rightly rejected and protested against what they termed ‘unjust action’ through conveyance of correspondence to the management of IBEDC, the Nigeria police, Nigeria Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC), EFCC, the media and Oyo State House of Assembly for protection of their right.

The Minority Leader further disclosed that though the IBEDC has restored electricity to the affected communities following his intervention in the imbroglio, there is still need to appeal to the people to remain calm and avoid break down of law and order and the company not to disconnect electricity supply to any of the affected people pending the meeting scheduled for Wednesday 25th July 2018 at Mapo Hall, Ibadan where all pending issues are expected to address and proffer solutions to.
