Ogun command kills kidnapper, arrests three others
A member of a kidnapping and robbery gang has been shot dead, while three other members were arrested by the men of the Ogun State Police Command.
The state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, said this on Tuesday at the command’s headquarters, Abeokuta, while parading two of the suspects.
The names of the two suspects paraded were given as 35-year-old Yussuf Abdullahi, and Audu Isa.
The third suspect, Ali Mohammed, was said to have been injured and receiving treatment in a hospital.
Iliyasu said the dead member was fatally injured in a crossfire with the police.
He said, “The gang was in the state to kidnap two businessmen – Alhaji Shehu and Alhaji Kabiru.
“When we got the intelligence, I mandated the men of the Federal Special-Anti Robbery Squad in the state to round up the hoodlums.
“The FSARS operatives technically trailed the bandits and accosted them in Abeokuta before they got to their targeted victims.
“On sighting the policemen, the suspects engaged them in a gun battle but later fell to the firepower of the police.
“At the end of the gun battle, one of the suspects was shot dead, while three were arrested.
“They have confessed during interrogation to have been involved in a series of robbery and kidnapping operations in many states in the northern and southern parts of the country.”
He added that seven AK-47 rifles, two pump action guns, seven magazines, 110 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition and 100 rounds of live cartridges were recovered from the suspects.
The CP also stated that they would be charged to court at the conclusion of police investigation.
