How teenager was electrocuted by BEDC Cable in Benin

THE teenager, Master Benedict Sanny, 14, was reportedly electrocuted by naked live wire belonging to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) on Thursday afternoon.

It was gathered that the electricity cable disconnected from the pole after it was accidentally hit by a truck near the BEDC office on Auchi Road.

The live wire which dangled dangerously from the pole was left unattended to by officials of the electricity company for over 48 hours after the incident.

It was also learnt that the ill-fated pupil who was on his way home after closing stepped on the wire unknowingly and was electrocuted instantly.

The situation, however, led to a serious protest by the residents thereby leading to a heavy traffic jam in the neighbourhood.

The Head of Communication, BEDC, Mr Adekule Tayo who confirmed the incident said: “We are yet to get full details of accident from our field officers.

“As soon as we get the reports, we will commence full-scale investigation.”

The Edo Police spokesman, Mr Nwanbuzor Chidi said that the police had deployed officers and men to the area to forestall possible breach of peace and order.
