Knife-point robbery: 2 men plead guilty, risk 3 years in jail

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday remanded two men, Adamu Yaya and Ibrahim Musa, in prisons after they pleaded guilty to knife-point robbery of phones valued at N355,000 and N150,000 cash.

Chief Magistrate Olufunke Sule-Amzat, who gave the ruling, said the duo should remain behind bars pending sentence.

The accused were arraigned on a three-count charge of conspiracy, fraud and armed robbery.

The accused committed the offences with others still at large on July 15 at Albati Street, Idi-Araba, Lagos, Police Prosecutor Benson Emuerhi told the court.

He said the accused, armed with knives and other weapons, robbed the complainant, Mr Mohammed Abdulrasak, of his mobile phones valued at N355,000 and N150,000 cash.

“The accused armed themselves with knives and other offensive weapons and robbed the complainant of his two phones and money on his way home from work,’’

Emuerhi said that Yaya also fraudulently obtained the sum of N650,000 from a man, Tijani Jubril and sold a fake necklace to him.

“Yaya collected N650, 000 from Jubril and sold a fake necklace to him claiming it was gold.”

The offences contravened Sections 287, 297, 323 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 provides three years imprisonment for stealing while Section 323 prescribes seven years for conspiracy to defraud.

The case has been adjourned until Oct. 29.
