Popular business man remanded for raping minor

A Chief Magistrates’ court in Gombe on Tuesday remanded a 35-year-old business man, Adamu Abubakar, in prison custody for allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Abubakar is a resident of Fage Quarters in Deba Town, Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area of the state.

Reading the First Information Report (FIR), the Prosecutor, Insp Bako Shekari, told the court that the accused person forcibly had carnal knowledge of the minor on April 21.

The prosecutor alleged that the accused lured the girl into an uncompleted building and violated her.

The alleged offence, Shekari said, was contrary to Section 282 of the Penal Code Law of the state.

The prosecutor, however, said that the police were still investigating the matter to obtain more evidence.

He, therefore, prayed the court to adjourn the case to enable the police send the case file to the Directorate of Public Prosecution for legal advice.

Abubakar, however, had pleaded not guilty when his plea was taken.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Babayo Usamatu, adjourned the case till July 17 for further mention.

Usamatu ordered the remand of the accused in prison custody.
